Crisis in Haiti

Crisis in Haiti It is very difficult to imagine what daily life is like for the people of Haiti. Over the years Denise and I have painted a picture seen through our eyes, hoping to dispel stereotypes and quick judgments. Sometimes our words fail us. Now is such a time, but words of others can fill the gap. The following link is to an article that will help you to see what is taking place. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-06-11/armed-bandits-take-over-valley-that-was-long-haiti-s-breadbasket The attached pdf is a very comprehensive article about the history leading up to the current environment. Please pray for Haiti. IJDH-Report-Haiti-at-a-Crossroads-May-2019.pdf

Wrapping things up

Although we have only been here for three weeks it feels like we have been here a very long time. Our two worlds are so far apart in so many ways. Our trip back from Port was uneventful, just as we pray for. We got home early in the day, but after so many days of travel, I was too tired to even think about what I needed to do. I know Bob felt the same way. Besides we knew we had meetings every day until we leave. Thursday we met with Sami and Sr. Pat. Sami is an American …

Fr Chris and Cecile\’s visit

Fr. Chris and Cecile’s visit March 26, 2019 This has been a very busy week. Last Friday Bob and I took Cecile and Fr. Chris up to our apartment in Garcin. On our way we stopped and checked on young Jon Gary in the hospital, he seemed to be doing better. We also grabbed the famous egg sandwiches. The trip is pretty exhausting so once we got settled into the apartment we all took a nap. Bob then took them to our Agricultural Center. Fr. Chris told me he was very impressed with the Center. Our “Ladies” prepared a very …

Hard Trip

February , 2019 A hard Trip I know I have not written for a long time, and a lot has happened. Most of you know that last August a week before we were planning to return to Haiti, I lost sight in my right eye. I went to the emergency room, they thought I was having a stroke and gave me immediate care. After many tests and twenty-four hours observation it was determined I had a atypical migraine in my eye. During the Cat scan done of my head they found a spot in the top lobe of my right …

And the people suffer…

As far as we know very little news is being reported in the USA about current conditions in Haiti. First, we are safe in the countryside. We are preparing for evaluation if necessary. The following is a post from Gail Grady. Gail is one of 8 other non-Haitian people that live and work in our area. Asking for prayers for Haiti. The people are fed up. When they reach their breaking point they take to the streets to protest. They try everything to get the government to listen ~ burning tires, throwing rocks, blocking roads, halting transportation. They are hungry, …
