Mwen Grangou were the very first Kreole words I learned. Mwen Grangou, I am Hungry. Three little words that forever changed the way we saw the world. These three words opened our eyes to things unseen in our first-world experience.
We saw with our own eyes that many people in Haiti do not eat every day. We learned that a person cannot work at a pace that burns more calories than they have available. Calories in, calories out.
We learned that the most critical time for proper nutrition in the human body is the first 1000 days of life, beginning at conception. Without proper nutrition at the right time, the human body, from bones to the brain, will not fully develop, and that person will be seriously limited for life.
The Haiti Project addresses hunger in three ways.
#1 SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM
While we still support the school lunch program, we now collaborate with St Thomas Aquinas Church in Cookeville, TN, and St Francis Cabrini Church in Lebanon, TN to feed their twinned parishes' school children.
One group that makes a vital difference in The Haiti Project’s support for the school lunch program is the Western Region Salvatorians. They have a very successful recycling project that raises money by recycling aluminum cans. Seeing this group working together to actively answer the call to feed the least of His people is inspiring.
We will direct your donation to the highest needs, whether that be direct to the schools, an urgent malnutrition situation, help with transportation of donated food, or help make bulk purchases of discounted food from Food for the Poor.
Wherever the need is greatest at the time.
#2 BULK FOOD PURCHASES
Another way we have used the unrestricted funds is in collaboration with the Parish Twinning Program and Food for the Poor to purchase, transport, and distribute food to the poorest of the poor in the remote mountains. Food for the Poor handles, purchases, and ships the food. Whenever possible, food is first bought within Haiti. Then it is purchased from other third-world countries. This kind of purchasing helps to keep money in these poverty-ridden countries.
#3 MALNUTRITION CLINIC
The Haiti Project collaborates with Saint Thomas Catholic Church in Cookeville, TN, and the sisters of Our Lady of Little Theresa to address hunger at the malnutrition clinic in Riviere Mancelle. This is a very successful program and is for malnourished children and nursing or pregnant mothers.
The Haiti Project works as a go-between St Thomas Aquinas Church and the sisters to provide funding for special needs.
If you want to help feed children through the school lunch program, you may do so via the twin parishes:
- St. Thomas Aquinas Parish
- St. Francis Cabrini Parish

Thank you all for your prayers and generous support,
DONATE NOW TO FEED THE CHILDREN
Thank you all for your faithfulness and support in feeding the kids. We have established checks and balances to ensure that the money donated to the “School Lunch Program” is used to buy food only. Donations designated for the school lunch program are restricted to food purchases.
